About this event

The Neighborhood Community Development Center of the Urban Mission proudly presents "Stop the Violence" 5K Walk/Run. This event provides our community with an opportunity to not only address the issue of violent crimes but to educate our community on the growing concern of violence as a minority health disparity. Each mile is dedicated to victims of violent crimes, mile markers along the route will display the names of community loved ones lost to violence. In addition, the 5K promotes wellness and encourages family and community exercise. The 5K will feature a sidewalk health fair which will begin at 11:00 am and run the duration of the event. The health fair will include local health agencies, who will provide health information, blood pressure screenings, and giveaways. The 5K will also feature a balloon release/memorial, an important piece of the opening ceremony (beginning at 12:00 pm). Honorable Mayor Jerry Barilla will provide an official city welcome for the 5K and he will be joined by City Councilwoman Asantewa Anyabwile, representatives from the Steubenville NAACP Health Committee and more. Participants will have an opportunity to enter for a chance to win one of our 5K raffle prizes.

Registration is now open!

This event is funded by the Ohio Commission on Minority Health, and sponsored by NDCD.

Since 1977, the Neighborhood Community Development Center (NCDC) o the Urban Mission has kept its ear attuned to the needs of the community. As a result, NCDC has offered programs ranging from AIDS prevention to leadership development to health and wellness camps  for our community’s youth.

NCDC serves as the community and relationship building arm of Urban Mission Ministries. We are dedicated to the development of new leaders within our community, and the development of programming that will benefit our community in the areas of health, education, economic development, leadership development, and spiritual growth. Currently, NCDC host  ongoing health and wellness education and programming. Annually, NCDC host coat and shoe give-a-ways, and a Back to School Bash, and a series of  health events during Minority Health Month,  Through each event, community members are given the necessary tools and training to develop leadership skills to implement these programs.
